Help & Support
Welcome to the Global-Irc.Eu help page. Here you will find everything you need to connect, solve common problems, and get started on the network.
Recommended connection
The easiest way to connect is using the network's round-robin address:
Server: irc.global-irc.eu
SSL/TLS port (recommended): 6697
Plain text port: 6667
Always prefer the SSL/TLS port (6697). It encrypts your connection and is the modern standard.
Alternative servers
If the main address is slow or unavailable, try one of these directly:
- rotterdam.global-irc.eu
- enschede.global-irc.eu
- delft.global-irc.eu
- warsaw.global-irc.eu
- gravelines.global-irc.eu
- losangeles.global-irc.eu
All of the above support both port 6667 (plain) and 6697 (SSL).
Recommended IRC clients
- Windows: mIRC, HexChat
- Linux / macOS: HexChat, WeeChat, irssi, Konversation
- Cross-platform / modern: HexChat, The Lounge (web), Kiwi IRC
- Mobile: AndroIRC, IRCCloud, Palaver (iOS)
Most clients only need the server address and port. Enable SSL/TLS when using port 6697.
Quick start after connecting
- Choose a nickname (your client will usually ask for one).
- Join the main channel: /join #Portal
- Look around: /list shows public channels.
- Popular channels are #ChatArea, #Formula1, #duckhunt, #IRCPlus and #speelhal.
Connection problems & troubleshooting
Unable to resolve server / Cannot connect
- Check your internet connection.
- Try a different server from the list above.
- Make sure you are using the correct port (6697 for SSL, 6667 for plain).
- Temporarily disable VPN or proxy software and try again.
- Check whether your firewall or antivirus is blocking the IRC client.
Connection timed out / Network unreachable
- The server may be temporarily unreachable. Try another server on the network.
- Some ISPs or corporate networks block IRC ports. Try from a different network or use a VPN.
- Increase the connection timeout in your client settings if available.
"You are not authorized" / Closing Link
- Some servers reject connections without reverse DNS or without a working ident.
- Try a different server on the network — the round-robin usually picks a suitable one.
- Make sure your client is not using a proxy that the server dislikes.
Nick already in use
- Someone else (or a previous connection of yours) is using that nick.
- Choose a different nickname, or wait a few minutes and try again.
- If you have registered the nick, you can recover it with NickServ (see FAQ below).
SSL / Certificate errors
- Most modern clients accept the network certificate automatically.
- If your client complains, make sure you are connecting to port 6697 with SSL enabled.
- Do not disable certificate verification permanently unless you understand the risks.
Frequent disconnects / Ping timeouts
- Unstable internet connection or high latency.
- Firewall or router dropping idle connections — enable keep-alive / ping settings in your client.
- Try a geographically closer server if available.
